1 Business Foundation

All businesses aspire to be "World Class" in their particular industry. 2 People

There are five people elements within Business Excellence. Our people are otherwise known as a corporate Intelectual Asset. This particular asset is critical to the organization in assuring knowledge is retained and shared in a formal method. Our people become key to our current success and our future to continuously improve our business.


3 Process

There are twelve process elements of Business Excellence. The work process can be defined as "a particular course of action intended to achieve a result". Processes are our guiding principles of working within a company's value stream. Processes are meant to tell us what we are to be doing and how to do it in a "Structured Disciplined Approach".


4 Plant & Production

Plant & Production encompass six elements and are ultimately responsible for the organizations output and deliverable to the business goals. It has been commonly noted that plant & production elements have a significant inner dependency on people & process and must work in harmony to achieve real results.

An ultimate result of Business Excellence is for every organization to operate at the lowest possible risk of exposure. Performance management includes activities which ensure that goals are consistently being met in an effective and efficient manner. Performance management focuses on the performance of an organization, a department, employee, or even the processes to build a product of service, as well as other areas. Comprises a range of strategies and practices used in an organization to identify, create, represent, distribute, and enable adoption of insights and experiences. Is the activity of conveying information through the exchange of thoughts, messages, or information, as by speech, visuals, signals, writing, or behavior. Is an ongoing effort to improve products, services, or processes. Commonly used tools are Lean, TPM, Six Sigma, just to name a few. Competency is a standardized requirement for an individual to properly perform a specific job or task. Competency assessments will identify gaps which lead to a training and development plan. The collection and management of information from one or more sources, typically in multiple IT systems designed for practical business collaboration. Systems could be stand alone or integrated such as; SAP, Oracle, Infor, Maximo and others. The management of an interconnected or interlinked process which allows for the provision of product and services to be procured. The management of the flow of resources between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet some requirements. This may include external and internal logistical controls and methodologies. The means in which maintenance activity is identified, prepared, scheduled and executed in the most effective and efficient manner. The managing of outsourced work performed for an individual company. For a company that outsources work to contractors its very important to have a system in place to manage those contractors' health and safety information, insurance information, training programs and specific documents that pertain to the contractor and the owner client. Shutdowns typically involve process integrity workscope, cleaning of process systems and replacement/repairs of equipment or components. Turnaround activity is performed typically to compile with regulatory standards. Outages are related to equipment and system overhauls, engineering projects or design changes. QA is the process or set of processes used to measure and assure the quality of a product, while QC is the process of meeting products and services to expectations Materials / Inventory is also commonly called "stock". This can consist of small inexpensive consumable items to parts and components purchased as capital being held as inventory until a demand is required. This is an integrative philosophy of management for continuously improving the dependability of equipment and processes to be available on requirement and to perform as the designed specification. Not to be confused with "change management", MoC is a means to make technical and component changes within a process or equipment. This process takes into consideration a formal Risk assessment to assure the risk is minimized as low as reasonably practicable. Defined as guarding of the asset within a defined physical footprint to assure no breach to a perimeter is incurred. Asset Integrity Process Safety Management (AI-PSM) is the means of ensuring people, systems, processes and resources, which deliver integrity, are in place, in use and fit for purpose throughout the whole lifecycle of the asset. The aim is to be able to confidently state that ‘our assets are safe and we know it’. Occupational safety, health and environment is an area concerned with protecting the safety, health and welfare of people and surroundings engaged in work, employment or otherwise. The goals SHE programs include to foster a safe and healthy work environment. The intent is to protect co-workers, family members, employers, customers, and many others who might be affected by the workplace environment. Focus is on organization, cleanliness and performance of equipment and it's surroundings. Measures of equipment performance are monitored and a continuous cycle of improving performance is in place. This is a means to declare an are of ownership within a facility. Site Ownership Scheme (SOS) is a means to instill autonomous care, team work and pride in operating of equipment. Understanding and reducing losses due to unscheduled events such as process disruption, breakdowns, other maintenance activity to name a few. Being able to evaluate and calculate the losses to justify a longer term solution is critical to improved unscheduled loss. In a real time operation (RTO) the operations and maintenance teams are working jointly using real time data to hunt for process optimization opportunities. Driving towards a culture of real time all the time. This is a means in taking historical data, trends and assumptions to determine and forecast production outcomes. Taking into consideration all reserves and potential market volatility. Change management is an approach to transitioning individuals, teams, and organizations to a desired future state. An organization structure that is assembled and fit for purpose to the industry which will foster change and continuous improvement. Could be Pyramid, Matrix, Committee or other structure. Business goals are a formalized means to setting targets of achievement which are aligned to the strategy, vision and mission of the company. They must be designed and agree based on the SMART concept. Is typically the compilation and dissemination of the vision and the mission statement. What will we put in place to execute to our end in mind. Ex.: Maintenance Departments should have a maintenance reference plan. Vision outlines what the organization wants to be, or how it wants the world in which it operates to be. Mission defines the fundamental purpose of an organization or an enterprise
